Hiking Systems and Cross-Regional Trails
There are several major trail systems that form interconnected
networks of trails that span an multiple regions. Some of these
systems, such as the Appalachian Trail., can now be followed
contigiously in muti-day, or multi-week treks. Other trail systems
represent paths used for travel in the distant past, but are no longer
contiguous, with portions blocked by roads, or private property. In
the latter case, portions of the original trail are still hikable,
though the trail segements are often bly known by different names
